Advocacy For Mental Health
Our local Community Mental Health organizations serve hundreds of thousands of Michiganders, and we believe highlighting individual stories is important. Here are a few stories from Gratiot County!. For the past 50 years, the mental health system in Michigan has been run and operated by county-based government entities to serve Michiganders with complex mental health, emotional disturbance, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. Recent legislation under consideration in the Michigan State Senate would eliminate the existing Michigan public mental health care system and shift $3.5 billion of these state and federal dollars spent annually on this to private for-profit insurance companies based in Missouri, California, Minnesota, Arizona and Indiana. Congratulations to our local winner for the bi-annual cmha art show!
Jackie Hurmence is our local artists who will travel with the Statewide Traveling Art Show in an effort to help de-stigmatize mental illness and to highlight the recovery potential of art! Congratulation to her on her piece entitled, "Wings of Hope."
Why is Registering to Vote Important?
Registering to vote benefits individuals, health centers, and democracy as a whole. Registered voters are more likely to be active and engaged citizens, and studies show that voter participation results in improved health outcomes. Health centers improve when the people we serve vote at higher rates and are able to express their support for health care access and services provided by voting. Our democracy is strongest when people of all backgrounds participate.More Information
